A Director of Moments from Real Life

Devin is a director drawn to honest performances, expressive camera work, and the fleeting moments that make real life feel cinematic. His approach is simple: real life, artfully heightened. A world that feels aspirational enough to pull you in, and human enough to recognize yourself in it.
Over nearly two decades, Devin has directed and produced commercial and branded work for companies including American Airlines, Nike, Amazon, CareFirst and Honda, along with more than 100 spots in the automotive world. It's no wonder he's got a stack of ADDY's, Telly's, and Hermes Creative awards to show for it.
Before settling into the director’s chair, Devin cut his teeth as an editor, where he developed an instinct for performance, pacing, and the tiny visual details that make an idea land. He eventually moved into producing and directing, picking up a few more useful brains along the way. The editor in him is always thinking about how the pieces will come together. The producer is making sure the ambition survives contact with the budget. And the director is looking for the unexpected glance, gesture, or burst of energy that makes everything feel alive.

Years spent working both inside and alongside agencies also taught Devin how to connect creative ambition with the strategy behind it. He begins every production with a clear idea of where it is going, then leaves just enough room for something better to happen. His background in editing, visual effects, 3D previsualization, and emerging technology allows him to see the entire process from the first boards through the final frame, and gives clients a clear picture of what they are making before the cameras roll.
Devin also directed, produced, and edited the feature-length documentary Weaving Shibusa, an intimate exploration of the people, history, and obsessive craftsmanship behind Japan’s denim industry. The documentary premiered to a sold-out audience at San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre before screening in cities around the world. Its trailer reached millions of viewers and proved that people will, in fact, enthusiastically watch a movie about jeans when the people making them care that deeply.
When he isn’t directing, Devin is usually editing, building a better production system, planning his next globetrotting documentary, or drinking espresso while researching an unnecessarily era-specific pair of Japanese jeans.
